Outdoor Christmas Lighting And Other Christmas Lighting Ideas

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas…look around, and one can't help but notice the twinkling Christmas lights upping the ante on the holiday hoopla. Outdoor Christmas lighting is mostly responsible for creating the festive aura that surrounds the Christmas holiday season. Kids and adults are mesmerized by the striking, ornamental Christmas lighting decorations.

Christmas lighting can be used in trees, on shrubs, around the house, or even as stand-alone decorations. There are so many variations of the white or colored lights that it easy to get lost (or caught up in!) the fervor of choosing a few.

Most outdoor Christmas lighting is rope light sculptures or stringers , which are essentially ropes of colored or white bulbs that either shine continuously or have a twinkling effect (known as twinklers). These can be outfitted with mini-bulbs, or larger bulbs, which are known as C7 or C9 bulbs. C7 bulbs are 5 watt, 130 volt bulbs, while C9 bulbs are 7 watt, 130 volt bulbs.

A 24 foot string of lighted white bulbs is $10, and a multi-color lighted set is $11. Miniature white lights in a 24.5 foot string cost $9, and a slightly shorter (18.3 feet) solid colored light strand, or a multi-colored strand is $8. Christmas lighting for the outdoors is an expensive way to showcase the holiday spirit.

Christmas lighting is mostly imaginative, and the Christmas lighting idea is generally left up to the homeowner's own design. A Christmas lighting idea can range anywhere from a simple strand of icicle lights around the house to an overdone outdoor Christmas lighting extravaganza complete with plastic statuettes and inflatable trees or snow globes.

Outdoor Christmas lighting should be tasteful. The idea is not to short-circuit the entire neighborhood. The best Christmas lights creates an aura and tie the decorations in with the lighting scheme. For instance: a strand or two of lights that rim the house, with yard decorations such as a small, lighted tree. A few light-up cut outs of reindeer leave to much to the imagination, while a brightly lit yard and house with no central theme leaves too little.

Remember being a small child and getting super-excited about the upcoming Christmas holidays because of the Christmas lights? Who doesn't want to bestow that ethereal feeling of magic that comes along with the heightening sense of the pending Santa Claus visit on today's youngsters? Don't be a Scrooge; Christmas lighting doesn't break the bank or require too much work. Hang up some outdoor Christmas lights, find a plug, and have a holly, jolly Christmas!
